Hatari Sekoko is the executive chairman of Doyelcy Co Ltd (DCL) a top diversified investment firm with interests in several sectors of the Rwandan economy. The firm is currently focusing on investments in hospitality, property development, insurance, renewable energy and agriculture.
However, it is within property development in Kigali that DCT is making its most visible impact. Four major groundbreaking projects sets DCT far apart from its competitors.
The company burst into prominence with its flagship project that changed Kigali skyline to date other wise known as Kigali City Towers(KCT) in 2006.KCT built at a cost of US$33 million was commissioned in 2011 as a 20 storey mixed use high rise office and retail building, the tallest in Rwanda.
In 2010, DCT was in the real estate news for being at forefront of another trail blazing 7 hectare mixed use development project. DCT was reported to be an anchor corporate shareholder in the down town project that was designed as US$200 million piece of real estate- an extensive piece of real estate that is situated at the former Kigali Central Police Station in Muhima.
Following closely on the commissioning of KCT and ground breaking of Down Town project, DCL ventured into hospitality sector with completion of Kigali Marriot Hotel an imposing piece of real estate.
The Kigali Marriot is built at a cost of US$60 million through DCT’s special purpose vehicle entitled New Century Development Co Ltd. Commissioned in 2014 the property comprises a 5 star hotel with 254 rooms and is considered as the largest hotel in Rwanda.
Sekoko’s latest venture unveiled in 2016 entitled the century park hotels and residences in Nyarutarama , Gasabo District in Kigali on a 9.6 hectare plot is testimony to extent of DCT ambition as Rwanda’s foremost property developer.
In its typical mixed use development philosophy the project is designed to build 16 luxury villas, 15 blocks of high end apartments of various typologies, an entertainment centre branded as the Chillax Lounge and a chinese restaurant named “Tung”.
In addition, the project is meant to construct a luxurious 58 room boutique hotel with first class health club facilities comprising a gym, swimming pool and jogging track and a 200 room hotel meant to be managed by respected brand Sheraton.
Those watching the property sector in Rwanda see in Sekoko’s successes in the property market the footprints of a true business leader; taking bold and huge strides with solid fixture on the future.
